“Sometimes when you love someone you do crazy things”.
Being a Birmingham wedding photographer means I get to shoot a lot of weddings in, er, Birmingham! And one of my favourites was the wedding of Elizabeth and Andrei at the main Register Office in Birmingham city centre.
The guys had decided on a low-key affair for their official wedding vows and were going to have a bigger party later in the year in their home country. They wanted me for a couple of hours on the day to record the vows etc and then we were off to the local pub, The Canal House, which was just a short walk from the Register Office. BTW that Canal House is a great pub. I was so impressed I took the family for lunch the following Sunday, lovely, and perfect for a few cocktails in the sunshine!
When I first started wedding photography I used to be unsure about doing short gigs with fewer guests as I thought it would limit my opportunity to get the quantity and type of shots I thought I needed. What I’ve found over the hundreds of weddings I’ve covered is that the smaller the wedding the more connected I feel to it as there is more contact with each individual guest. When you’ve shot weddings with 300+ guests it’s easy to not see the same guest for a couple of hours. With fewer guests you’re in their “field of awareness” (say what!) much more often. It’s vital to blend in as a friend rather than a photographer, so as not to put the other guests in that uneasy “oh no the photographers hovering around let’s all go into that awkward oh no the photographers hovering around pose”!
Check out this selection of Elizabeth and Andrei’s day to see how I did. Do you think I managed to blend in and capture people relaxed and enjoying themselves or do you think they all look awkward, on edge and suffering from the “oh no there’s the wedding photographer”?
I hope you enjoyed that little sneak peek in to Elizabeth and Andrei’s day. You can check here on my home page for more of my wedding photography. Want to know more? Generally all the answers you may want will be on my FAQ, Reviews or Packages pages.
